This year marks the 70th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. On June 6th, 1944 – 70 years ago – allied troupes landed on the shores of Normandy, marking the beginning of a decisive period that has shaped modern history. As we remembered, thanked, and celebrated those who have fought for their country in a number of Remembrance Day events this past week, it seemed appropriate to share this postcard sent to me from Normandy. Lest we forget.
This stunning postcard of the aurora borealis, or northern lights, was sent to me by a friend who was working in Yellowknife (Northwest Territories, Canada). She hoped they were a good omen. I would like to think so too, even if only for the fact that they make us stop and admire the overwhelming natural beauty that surrounds us.
It is always so exciting to open up my mailbox and receive a postcard or letter, thoughtfully written just for me. It’s a reminder of how great it is to have travel buddies and buddies who love to travel. Continue reading
